I’m always thinking of new things to blog about. Sometimes when I hear the headlines I want to run outside, climb a ladder, and scream from the rooftops, “Wake UP, everyone!” We’re constantly bombarded with stories that either discourage, affirm, or even confound our values and beliefs. While I’ll still be posting stories that I find interesting and thought provoking on my facebook fan page, I’m going to take a short break from reporting them because I want to talk about something even more important for the next couple months. You.
I think we all make a huge mistake when we assume anything about a person. Once we find out a piece of information about someone, we assume that we can pretty accurately infer what that person believes about other things, as well. We miss the opportunity to learn the complexities of each individual. We can also eliminate the possibility of finding something in common with that person that could help us grow.
For the next couple months I’m going to be profiling some of the people in my life who inspire and challenge me. We look to celebrities, politicians, and historical figures as larger than life but the truth is, they are human just like us and we shouldn’t be glorifying them. We should be looking to God and each other for guidance and wisdom on our challenges, strengths, trials, tragedies, and lessons learned. The average American citizen is the real hero and it’s time we got back to recognizing this forgotten truth.
